All Young Girls Are Machine Guns - Leave Me Lonely (Ukulele Original)

It’s been a long, long time, and you can hear the air conditioner in the back, and I forget how to play the song a couple times, and there are lighting issues, and you can catch my niece and nephew arguing at the end, and the video quality is total crap, but it’s a video.

Ah, internet video celebrity. (Haaaaaa…)

Wherein I Tell You About Band Practice Last Night…

Tacos bring people together. If this hasn’t been determined worldwide, I’m afraid there are people missing out on a certain level of community everyone should know.

We here at AYGAMG have been recording and we have been on a sort of hiatus while searching for a drummer and focusing our concentrated efforts on making the album sound as good as we can.

To make this happen, I’ve been practicing with my sister, KP, and two ladies I’ve done music with for some of the Encyclopedia Shows, Liz and Molly. These three are the Vandellas to my Martha, the Supremes to my Diana, the Pips to my Gladys. Things have been going swimmingly, and FEELINGS.

I’ve been playing my fair share of solo shows and shows with just Will and I, but we’d scheduled one full band show before we were out a drummer, and then we were also offered an opportunity to play for a big event in town that would help us pay for some of the cd, so we took that, too. Knowing of the upcoming events, we knew it was time to get everyone in the same room to see just how all the cogs would come together.

Last night was the first time marrying Travis and Will to KP, Molly, and Liz, and let me tell you, TACOS.

Tacos and Tacate and at moments, saucy four-part harmonies and snapping silliness and sweet guitar solos; we spent the night realizing just how much potential for greatness we’ve got ahead of us. The music we were making was almost more overwhelming than the amount of booze we all managed to consume. I feel like, for the first time in a long time, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns is a family.

When we do finally come across the right drummer, I hope they’re ready for a whole lot of love and laughter.

A certain gun-slingin’ lady starts recording main vocals tomorrow.

I wonder who that could be…

Les Femmes Folles: Caroline Smith, singer/songwriter ⇢

femmesfollesnebraska:

Minnesotan Caroline Smith is performing along with her band, The Good Night Sleeps Feb. 16 at O’Leavers (details below). She generously takes the time to share with Les Femmes Folles about growing up in a musical family, how feminism plays a major role in her creative work, and more…

Also, Midwest Dilemma was just added to this show. BOY HOWDY, TODAY IS A GOOD DAY!!!

Omahype V Day Mixtape Vol. 3 by All Young Girls Are Machine Guns ⇢

(Psssst…there’s a new AYGAMG track in that link.)

So, I’m playing at O’Leavers, Thursday, February 16th with Caroline Smith and The Good Night Sleeps. I am so ridiculously excited and terrified for this. I played with them the last time they were in town and I botched it up real good because that, my friends, was the last time I got drunk. Then they turned out to be ah-mazing and I felt like utter crap for boozing on their time. I didn’t take a penny and bought a cd and now I will be making up for it by advertising the hell out of this little show.

They are ridiculous. It is ridiculous how good they are. SO good. You should come…but only if you’re older than 21 (sorry).

So, our January hiatus is coming to an end. Sweet, sweet February is a’comin. We’re gonna start playing again, but not nearly to the same “candle at both ends” level. We’re going to give you something to really sink your teeth into.
I can’t wait.
February:
16th (Thurs.) - 9pm - O’Leaver’s w/Caroline Smith & The Good Night Sleeps - $5 - 21+
25th (Sat.) - 9pm - Slowdown w/The Sleepover &  Anniversaire - $7 - All Ages
March:
17th (Sat.) - 9pm - The Sydney w/Caleb Hawley - $5 - 21+
Bolded date indicates a full band show.

I thought Sally of Les Femmes Folles might enjoy that I still have this.
So, in AYGAMG news:
We made a resolution this year and a plan for recording.
Our resolution this year is to, at the very least, act like we understand our worth. We have worked very hard to to get to the point we’ve reached, and we would like that reflected in the gigs we take. So, if we’re playing less than you would like, we apologize. When we do play, we’re going to do our best to knock your socks off and make it worth all of your patience.
We will be recording soon. We have more than enough songs to record another album, and so we will. We’re going to take a little more time to do it than the last album, we’re also going to take a little more risk. We’re currently trying to nail down exactly what we think will work right now and make decisions on what we could put on the back burner for whatever comes in the future. We have time available to us that was spent, in the past, playing as often as we could. We are instead going to use that time to make you something really special.
So, that being said, if you see that I’ve taken the time to go to an open mic night, that might be your best chance of catching any hints of what’s to come.
Also, I don’t remember if I mentioned this here, but we were nominated for another Omaha Entertainment and Arts Award this year in the category of Best Adult Alternative/Singer-Songwriter. The big show is February 13th. So, I’ll let you know how that goes down.
We’ll be seeing you,
Becks

I hate coming up with song titles. HATE it. I think the next album will just have titles like old Friends episodes.

  • “The One That Travis Wrote”
  • “The One About The Devil”
  • “The Really Mushy One”
  • “The Other Really Mushy One, But With A Fancy Guitar Solo”
  • “The One Zip Plays That REALLY SWEET BEAT In”
  • “The One Where The Sisters Sing”
